Regarding the Illustrations

The Optic System of the Eye

The anatomy and function of the eyes is sometimes difficult to envision. For accuracy and precision, I consulted many textbooks. Finally, I felt I had the understanding needed to create a series of simple, clear illustrations that everyone would enjoy.

Also, I combed through 19th century texts and found some real gems that further serve to clarify Dr. Bates’s teaching. I removed the original illustrations, as I felt they were not helpful. (If you are interested, you can find the original illustrations in the free download of the original Bates edition on the page “About William H. Bates, MD”).

With the addition of a new introductory chapter and all the new illustrations, I finally feel that the basic concepts and issues are accessible to everyone. Also, the illustrations are fun to look at and ponder!
